SOK SOK
Location-based social media App
SOK SOK is a location-based communication network with a touch of gamification. Users can pin messages for their friends in a specific location, only for them to be found in their vicinity. Messages can have an expiry period to be accessed and read before they are deleted forever.
This project was done in collaboration with T-Lab at the Tehran Urban Innovation Center, with the name Non-Infrastructured Network and received a grant for development.
The Problem
The ability to send and receive location-based messages is different from any traditional messaging app. Each message has a location to be viewed in and a timer. Users should be able to see their active messages’ location and timer quickly. All previous messages from each friend should be stored to be able to read later.
The Solution
The user’s persona was taken from the early adopter profile. Process maps were created to find the best task flows. We decided on the final design after creating a few designs for the interface and the UX and testing them with paper prototyping techniques.
The user is faced with a map and a pin on app startup. Then, they can move the pin to the desired location around where they currently are and write a message. Then, they select the recipient, the location radius, and the time limit for the message to be accessible.
For reducing the clutter of several messages on the map, a separate messaging page was designed for housing all the messages from each contact. On this page, each message was received chronically but their visibility was dependent on whether they visited the location of each message in its time limit.
